The championship is made up of six individual events (Men's Foil, Sabre and Épée along with Women's Foil, Sabre and Épée). Each event will take the form of a poule with each nation competing against each other nation in a team relay match (the standard BUCS type of match). At the end of the poule the teams will be ranked according to the number of relay matches won (in the event of a tie, teams will be separated by overall indicator, then by hits made and finally by which of the two teams tied beat the other).

For each event a nation wins they will be awarded ten points, if a nation comes second or third in an event they will receive five or two points respectively. In the event of an event having only four teams participating for any reason, there will be no points awarded for finishing third (the number of points for finishing first and second remains unchanged).

In the case of a tie on points in the final standings teams will be split by number of first places finishes, followed by number of second places, followed by number third places finishes (third places finishes will only be included for events with five teams taking part). If teams tied which are on points can not be separated by number of first, second or third places finishes then the total number of times the teams beat each other will be calculated with the team that beat the other more finishing higher in the rankings (in a event where one of the teams did not enter a team the other team is deemed to have won in that case). If the teams are still tied total indicators followed by total points scored will be used to split the teams.
